System error "Too Many Files Open"

Macola Progression 7.7.0.0 running on a mssql 2000 server with ICR version 11 [no Flex]

Editing an existing order in Order entry with only one line item sometimes generates a pop up error: System error "Too Many Files Open" which then crashes the user out of Enter Orders. Occurs randomly, sometimes with may line items sometimes with only one line item.

Any ideas? I know this has happened and been patched in earlier versions.
