Using Windows 2000pro, in Control Panel Data Sources(ODBC) System DSN tab, I set up a new ODBC entry. It allows me to go all the way through to the final screen, the TEST DATA SOURCE button responds "Connection Successful", but when I click OK, the DSN does not appear in the DSN list. I'm attempting to connect to SQL Server 2000.

Not only that, it allows me to create it again (and again, and again).

If I repeat the procedure in the USER DSN tab, it works fine. But I want the DSN to be available to all users of the computer, not just me.

Any idea why this might be happening?

Only thing I can think of is that after you click test datasource and click ok after Test Successful you are clicking cancel instead of OK again.

Actaully you issue is probably rights on the box, you need to have administrator rights on your pc to add and ODBC data source. If you are not it will let you go through all the screens, but won't save it and it does not give you an error message

timscronin is correct. i had this issue myself with some of my users machines. you can create user dns, but not system unless your an admin on that machine.

That was it. Boy, how frustrating that it doesn't give you a message! Thanks folks.
