Hi,
just started to think bout best way to implement a system for a client.
they have five branches each with two terminals and need a stock control, ordering system.
this has also got to be available on the net for general customers.

I think the best way is to locate main server in head branch, which runs sql server.
front-end is asp based webpages with security login for different users.
branches access head office server via broadband but have different permissions than web customers.

is it worth installing own server or use third party 'off-site' service?

any comments welcome Mark

A license for SQL can be expensive depending on your needs:
I would recommend a hosting company to start out with. I have used Hostway ( for a few years now & they offer an SQL server. Also, if you contact George @ - he should be able to give you a good deal on a web host with SQL.

I would create the logons via ASP & records them that way. And have ASP or .NET run the database in that regard.
