Hello forum,

I was wondering if anyone may know how to change the number of rings before it hits voice mail?

I believe it is set to 5, I would like to change it to 6, also, there is a small group of people saying that their only ring 4 times. Is it possible that they are setup differently?

Thanks.

Because you didn't say, I'm assuming a 9006 platform because that's what I'm most familiar with, but I believe it's similar on the 4000.

The number of rings is a systemwide parameter and to the best of my knowledge cannot be set for individual stations. I have a networked arrangement of HiCom 300 hardware and have it set to transfer after 4 rings, but if the call is traveling across Cornet from a remote site there is an extra apparent ring for the caller before voicemail answers due to network latency. The phone will ring 4 times, but the caller hears 5 rings.

Typically a ring cycle (ring) is considered to be about 4 seconds, so for a typcal 4-ring setup you would start with the timer at 16 seconds. YMMV however, and you may have to pare off or add a second or two to get it where you want it.

In 9006 the timer is ANSADV (If no ANSwer ADVance to next). You can use DIS-TIMC; to view all the timer settings; this is one of the CP timers. You would use CHA-TIMC and the type would be CP and the timer would be ANSADV.

Keep in mind this will not only affect your transfers to voicemail, but also your hunt groups as well - how many rings before the call advances to the next member of the list.

The equivalent to TIMC on the 4000 is CTIME.
