System can't see second SCSI drive

Hello:

I have an Ultra 320 SCSI controller and C: drive and it all works just fine.

I'm trying to add a second SCSI drive to the chain but I keep getting 'operating system not found.'

The cable goes from the board to C: drive and I'm trying to add the new one to the middle of the cable.

If I pull the new drive off, everything is fine. Put it back and I get, 'OS not found.'

The SCSI utility sees both drives and the controller:

* the boot drive is on ID#15,
* the new drive is on ID#1
* and the controller is on ID#7

I have dual channels so I tried adding the new drive to the second channel, the machine boots but Windows doesn't see the drive.

What do I have to do?

What happens if you make your boot drive ID=0.
Some controllers will try to boot off the first drive they see and that would explain how you were working with the boot at 15. Add the #1 and you are trying to boot from the new drive.
All the controllers I work with want the boot at 0 or 1, but as a matter of course I put the boot at 0.

You were right about the boot drive, I took all the jumpers off to make sure it was ID#0.

Then the system booted but Windows still failed to see the new drive - I'd done a low level format with the SCSI utility but I'd forgotten to partition it!

Once I partitioned it everything was fine - thanks for your help.
