I have encountered this error when I attempt to connect to the server and a published App. using the ICA client. No, I do not have the "run only published applications" box checked in the citrix Connection Manager, but I do have the "inherit user config" box checked. I have gone through several accounts with the ICA client and they work correctly for a couple of days and then they will all of a sudden get this error message. I have taken these accounts that no longer work via the ICA client ( receiving the error: System cannot log you on (52E))and logged in to the same server via a Terminal Services client with success, which tells me that there are no user or permissions problems. Any help!?!?

Check Citrix Connection Configuration, you have selected the option to RUN ONLY PUBLISHED APPLICATIONS. Thanks,
Danielle

What service packs are you running, and do you have a regular reboot cycle?

I don't have a regular reboot cycle but I have rebooted and nothing has changed. At this point I have tried using a domain account as opposed to a local account and will see if that works. I have also heard that the local admin account is immune to this problem but I don't see that as a feasible option. Let me know if you can think of anything else.

The reason I suggested a regular reboot cycle (essential with terminal servers) is that you mentioned that your issue tends to occur over time, ie after a couple of days.

The message 52E is a standard Windows NT message indicating a login failure - if you can log in using a Terminal Server client, then maybe the users aren't logging off correctly or their roaming profiles are not being cleared down correctly.

The first place to look is in Connection Manager - to make sure the initial application box is unchecked. Check also the configuration in UMD, and the clients, since you've checked inherit user config. Are you using application sets or custom connections?

Then have a look in %systemroot%\profiles on the T/S. Is there a whole load of user profiles with the extension .001, .002, .003?

Delete as many of these as you can (after hours!), then reboot so that you can delete any stragglers. If these aren't clearing down properly, then post back - there are a few fixes for this.

Hope this helps!
