Hi

For the first time we encountered a system hung during startup at the following line in /etc/inittab:

rc:23456789:wait:/etc/rc 2>&1 | alog -tboot > /dev/console

I commented it out and the system then booted successfully. We have 200 LPARs and this is the first time this happens (as far as I know). Permissions of /dev/console and bootlog size is fine. Also no space problems in / or tmp.

Any idea ?

Much appreciated..

What did IBM support say? Did they ask you to instrument /etc/rc to find out what is hanging?

We have not yet log a call with IBM for this problem. If we just run the alog command (without redirect to /dev/console), then it goes through.

Thank!
