system believes that there are two drives in pc. I need to know how to combine C: and D: together. They are on the same piece of hardware. Can not download anymore because system concinced that hard drive is full

What operating system? Is there data on both partitions?

Have you not always had a c: & d: ??

Before you embark on any routine to combine I strongly suggest that you back up any data that you do not want to lose.

Partition MAgic will allow you to delete partitions and recover the space. And as rvnguy stated, BACK UP YOUR DRIVES FIRST. DO IT. I've seen problems when resizing/combining partitions. Data loss comes to mind. And if it's the OS that gets trashed, your pc won't boot.

Personally I would do the backup and then wipe out both partitions and build one large on (or 1 small part. for the OS, say around 5-8 gig) and the rest for data.
