Not certain of appropriate place to post this: Windows 7; I open Control Panel / System and Security / click on Windows Firewall / Check Firewall Status -- and nothing happens. MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) says everything is A-OK with my PC ... why won't Check Firewall Status open so I can verify what's on or off? Thanks. Appreciate any info/help.

if you go to start, run and try both of these commands (one at a time), does anything open?
firewall.cpl
wf.msc

If not, check event viewer to see if there's anything about the firewall service having an error.
Could be malware > scan for malware
Could be windows corruption > SFC /SCANNOW
