I recall at a conference a few years ago a guy speaking about a server/software which the telecom help desk staff logged onto and controlled access to several Octel systems where there is a single system manager password. With Sarbanes-Oxley around, this has generated interest to do a better job controling the accessability of these systems.

The server front-ended an individual ID and password for each staff member, controlled access to specific Octel systems, and specific menus (or portions of the menu like password reset tasks), buffered the Octel change activity to a single dialup session, and kept an activity log of every staff member session.

Any suggestions?

The Mailbox Manager software will do what you are talking about. It would be in a "Custom Installation" where there would be multiple users and multiple systems. It would be in a client/server scenario where there would be a server that would do all adds, moves, changes, and then each user would have the client software loaded on their PC. If you have the Mailbox Manager software on CD their are user guides that describe all the requirements. The Unimax website should also have more information.

You also need to have the feature enabled on each Octel system you want to manage.

There was also a CSA system that ran on the Octel Data module. It is no longer supported. There is also a way to control access if you have an Octel 350 and the MTA option that will allow you to control each terminal and what menus they can access.

You can also use a remote monitoring unit that would front-end the Octel and use a challenge password to even get to the login screen of the Octel.
