When running sar 1 10 on one of our server's we are getting the following output:-

11:50:53 %usr %sys %wio %idle
11:50:54 22 5 73 0
11:50:55 17 10 73 0
11:50:56 41 13 45 0
11:50:57 51 10 39 0
11:50:58 6 5 89 0
11:50:59 11 5 84 0
11:51:00 30 14 56 0
11:51:01 40 19 41 0
11:51:02 27 8 65 0
11:51:03 17 15 68 0

Average 26 10 64 0

The processor idle time is always 0. Is there something we can look for that will increase the idle time so that the processors will not be in constant use.

Thanks, CS

Can't find the command prstat it doesn't seem to exist. Is it supported on Solaris 2.6?

CS

prstat came in as standard with Solaris 8, before that you will need to implemt something like top.

As Ray says, try to find the cause of the bottleneck with top and investigate from there. What application is this system running? What are the cpu hardware details for this system, has the load increased suddenly or over a period and do you need to add more processor power?

The system is a housing management system (Saffron). We have two processors on the machine that run at 400MHz.
I'll have a look at your suggestions. Thanks.
