Referred to as chart of accounts in accounting land. I have a set that has been randomly thrown and grown together. Is there an easy way to move or reorganize system accounts in macola. Example: 5000 accounts were suppose to be personnel now we go.. 5000-5005 personnel 5006-5008 might be water expenses, then 5009-5011 benefits. We use 4 digits for account and three digit profit center ####.###. The accounts are not consistent across profit centers. I would like to be able to broaden the ranges so that 5000-6000 are various personnel expenses. Looks like my three year old created the system accounts order. The ultimate goal might be to use crystal or f9 to report.. But there is no opportunity to group or use the strenght of f9 report writer..

A macola reseller out of the Pheonix area, Alembic Computer Services, sells a utility "Mass GL Account Change". From what I understand, you could take one of your accounts that does not belong in a certain range and change from account A to account B. Do this on all of the inconsistent number schemes and then F9 will fill the bill perfectly from there.

This utility costs $995 and works with lots and lots of tables, but not all -- the literature I have is a couple of months old and you are advised to call for a current list of tables updated. This may not be perfect but its pretty good.

I agree with dgillz. I've used it before in both Pervasvie and SQL environments and it's worked well. I think it's best used when going from one account to another and not combining multiple accounts into one account. It has that ability but I'm usually not that brave.

ASCI's solution does a fine job of combining GL accounts if needed. Using f9, you should have no trouble creating solid financials even if your account structure is a mess. It would be good to clean it up, but if you aren't able to spend the $995 right now, you shouldn't be limited in f9. Crystal is not a good tool for financial statements since it doesn't understand debits & credits like f9, nor can it perform the @gl functions like crystal.

Thanks, I will check out the utility. Thanks for the comments on being able to proceed with f9 only.

I just can't take such an array of misplaced logic in the system accounts area..

bravo

Altho I didn't do the job, another contractor I was working with overhauled a messed up charge of accounts at a messed up company using Alembic and F9. He had it the way the controller wanted it in about three days.
