I have been having issues regarding hung processes lately and have spent more time than usual looking at the Current Activity of a particular DB through EM. I have noticed that I have a large number of connections which all display the same Hostname although the Net_address information is different. It just so happens that my lingering connections all bear this Hostname. After some searching for the PC with the popular Hostname, I found out it is no longer on the network, and hasn't been for quite awhile. I am unsure where this hostname is being ressurected from. Has anyone else seen this, and what can be done to correct it?

What kind of application is the client application? (Access, VB6, .NET, etc)

Hey Denny. The application is Maximo (Ver. 4.11), an enterprise asset management app. After lookng at it more yesterday, I suspect that it could be specific to the application. Unfortunately, I have only a few other DBs running on that SQL box, and they see very few connections, so that thoery can not be proven, but is likely.

Applications can override the actual hostname of the workstation that is running the app. Setup an Access database and created a linked table to the SQL Server. Move the access app to another machine and use the linked server. When you check the SQL Server the hostname shown will be the first machines name even though the second machine is the one that is connected.

Is the machine name shows an old admin station for the Maximo system?

Yea, I was thinking it was in the ODBC setup buried deep somewhere, and what you are saying making sense. That particular PC was used at the onset when installation and development was going on.

Any idea how to correct it?

You would need to call the software vendor. Sorry. :-(

Thanks what I figured. I plan on doing that. Maximo was recently purchased by IBM, and they have taken over support. I'm sure you can figure out painless that will be.
:)

Thanks for your assistance.

Oh yeah, that's going to be great.
