I've installed Windows XP and Vista on a pc.
XP first then Vista. Works fine.
I've syspreped Windows XP and rebooted with windows PE.
But then, when trying to sysprep, nothing happens.
Within Windows PE, the XP volume is on drive c: and Vista on drive d:
When using sysprep on d:, nothing happens.

What could be wrong?

There wasn't any error. after typing the sysprep command-line and than <enter>, nothing happend. But I got a repy from a different forum. Someone said, to use sysprep from within vista. This should work about the same as in XP. I'm trying this tomorrow.

I tried to run sysprep from vista. It had an interface with which I could setup the same parameters, I used from within Win PE. But still no succes. After giving the OK to start syspreping, it gave a screen saying it was preparing the system. But Also, I told sysprep it should shotdown but it didn't. In the same directory as sysprep, it put a file "sysprep_succeeded.tag". So I expect sysprep completed succesfully. But when starting up Vista, it gave an error-message saying "The Systemregistry contains invalid filepaths. The Installation can't continue. This Systeminstallationcopy is done without a garanty that driveletters are the same on other computers." (translated from dutch).
So maybe I can disable the xp-parition including the bootpartition (dual boot) and than, use sysprep or startup after syspreping Vista.
Restoring the laptop after having this error takes about an hour so it takes a lot of time trying one ore the other thingie that comes to mind. Maybe I can find something in that panther-Directory the sysprep added?

Vista on my new laptop won't let me install my old XP next to it. At 54, life is hard on a lamer ...
afer shrinking my C:, somehow, I managed to boot from XP-CD and install it on the new partition, (Fat32) ...
after reboot, I used my Vista startup to bring back the Vista - it probably re-wrote my boot record on C:
and now, I can't boot from CD and I'm stuck ... can someone help me out?

sandor54,

You have Vista on C:, you have XP on D:?????? and you are unable to boot from CD, is that what you are saying?

To be honest you'd be better off starting your own thread rather than putting it on a non-related subject, that way you would have a better response and be easier to find and respond to.

What is the boot order in your Bios, make sure the CD is ahead of the hard drive in that boot order.

When running dual boots with Vista, I find this program helps a lot.
