Syslog -> MySQL or Postgres

I'm setting up a FC4 server as a Syslog-ng box. I want to move the data from the syslog log files into a MySQL or Postgres DB (I haven't decided which what to use yet). Once in the DB, I'll be running reports on the data via php web pages.

1. In your opinion, which DB would be the better choice to use?

2. Can you point me to a decent tutorial to create a script to parse the log files and add them to tables in the database?

Thanks,
Ron
