Hi,
I'm using ntsyslog to log from a remote W2003 server to a Fedora 4 server.
The message file is being updated correctly and it's working nice.(Allevents/audits going to the FC4 server).
However, I want to know if there is a way for me to log remote messages to another logfile for convenience sake-eg message2003. I want the local Fedora message file to be for local messages and the ntsyslog messages to go to a separate file.

Does this seem like the best thing to do? Or is there na easy way to grep through it and filter out the W2003 events from the existing messages file?

I've always been frustrated by the lack of flexibility in syslog.conf. You could output the messages to a pipe and write your own filter in awk or perl to separate it into separate files for each host or similar.

Alternatively you could try replacing syslogd with syslog-ng or similar, which seems to be much more flexible, although I've not used it.

Annihilannic.
