sysfwdownload problem

Good day and Happy New Year to all our readers.

I'm currently struggling to use sysfwdownload with the -u option to upgrade the firmware on a T2000. According to everything I've read the -u option should automatically restart the box, applying the firmware upgrade as it does. The system is set to auto-boot?=true.

In this instance the download completes successfully, but the system doesn't shut down and restart as I had been expecting. In fact nothing else seems to happen and there are no nasty messages at the Service Processor console either.

Does anyone have any clue what might or might not be happening? Thanks.

Just to add to this information, there are actually two images:

Sun_System_Firmware-6_7_12-SPARC_Enterprise_T2000.bin
Sun_System_Firmware-6_7_12-Sun_Fire_T2000.bin

I have been using the Sun Fire one on the basis that uname -a returns:

SunOS server 5.10 Generic_137137-09 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200

but I'm not sure whether that is correct or not. Again, if anyone can confirm or otherwise I would appreciate it.

Ken I generally use showplatform from the alom but figure uname -a will give you similar info.

If it says sunfire that is the image I use.

There are actually Sparc Enterprise and Sunfire versioms of the box so you are using the correct image.

As far as your sysfwdownload -u I have not used that myself but the -u is supposed to do automatic update of the firmware and do a powerdown and reset where if you did not use the -u you would have to execute the flashupdate command.

So essentially if your firmware was updated then the -u did its job. if you run showlogs does it show a sc reset?

Hi Chris, and thanks for that. The powerdown etc that was supposed to have happened with the -u flag definitely didn't happen - I had a telnet session open all the time. I'll check showlogs when I next visit the data centre next week, but I'm kind of veering towards our current version 6.1.12 being too far behind the current one, 6.7.12 so that an incremental approach might be better. Other than that I guess flashupdate is the way to go..
