I'm trying to configure Sysback to work with a dual DLT 7337 tape library. In reference to the 7337, the Sysback manual simply says to make sure you are using the correct block size, and that the "autoload" feature is set to "no". It says that the "autoload" feature can be set using "change tape drive characteristics", however this doesn't seem (via SMIT) to have such an option. ("Autoload" should be set to "no" to allow Sysback to manage the tape changes).

However...

The Sysback virtual device creation does have this option.

I think I've tried just about all the virtual device creation combinations, but the 7337 makes no attempt to load any tapes.

I've run out of ideas.

Maybe some changes need to be made to the 7337 setup?

I can't find any information on the Net concerning Sysback/7337 configuration.

Can anybody help??

Many Thanks,
 =Adrian=
May be they're talking about the correct device to use. I've heard you have to use /dev/rmt0.x with x set to 1, 3, 5 or 7, to robots and autoloaders to work.I hope it works

Hi. I've never uses an IBM 7337 but we do use the IBM 7331 library and we do use Sysback. All of our server backups are scripted using Sysback and the 7331 library.

Have you configured the 7337 itself? With the 7331 you have to tell it to run either in random mode (the default) which requires an application such as ADSM or Veritas to access a tape or in sequential mode which means after the initial inventory of the tapes the 7331 will load the first tape and wait for something (i.e. Sysback) to do something. After Sysback either finishes or requests another tape it will eject the tape which will cause the 7331 to put it back in the magazine and mount the next sequential tape, ad infinitum. Well, until it runs out of tapes in the magazine <g>.

I hope this helps.

Geoff
