Hi, NW5.1 SP6 running on HP hardware. The server bombed and will mount Sys2 & Sys3 but not Sys.

Q - we have some unallocated disc big enough to create a new Sys volume. Could we do this & bring the existing Sys2 & 3 up from there? Any pitfalls to watch for (assuming it works at all)?

Cheers

Ian

In order to offer advice, we could do with some more information such as error messages received when SYS tries to mount and what exactly do you mean when you say the server "bombed"? Hardware failure? etc...

Creating a new SYS volume would not work as your server already has a volume called SYS, albeit that you cannot mount it for whatever reason.

Please try and give us some more information before you do anything destructive.

Besides what TheLad said, you can also run VREPAIR. Assuming something corrupted the volume, this will attempt to fix it.

Don't try to create a new SYS.
