Here is the message after trying to mount SYS at the command line:

There are no accessible disk drives with Netware partitions. Check to see that the needed disk drivers have been loaded, and that your disk drives are properly connected and powered on. Volume SYS could not be mounted. Some or all volume segments cannot be loaded.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yikes. Not sure what NICI has to do with it. Here's some TIDs to get you started:
TID10051976
TID10017043
TID10010818

Good Luck.

The NICI corruption is the first message that was received when they started the server up after losing power. It said to try and mount the volume and then install a few patches as per
After trying the command line mount they got the message i posted earlier.

I'll take a look at those TIDs.

Thanks

Have you considered a faulty RAID card? Usually a message like that appears when SYS will not mount because NetWare cannot see the SCSI card. My example is a junior tecchie moved a RAID card from slot 8 to slot 7 without changing the NetWare config and got NICI errors during the following reboot as the server config could not see the RAID card on Slot 8 because it was in Slot 7.

Does the server see the RAID controller and the disks during the power on routine?

They informed me there are no mirrored drives or RAID cards installed. They have 2 hard drives.

The system recognizes the drives at boot up but freezes when loading novell.

maybe the 2 drives are spanned (bad), and one drive failed so it can't mount the entire volume.

What you really need to do is load the server in stages and try to mount the volume manually early on in the process.. In other words, perform each step manually rather than just waiting and seeign what happens when the server boots up by itself.

look up LOADSTAGE on the knowledgebase to see how to do this.

Hi

Have only seen this sort of error twice and on both occassions it ended with a rebuild. Both times we called Novell for assistance and the only option was to rebuild and restore. As others have said it can be a bad SCSI card or corrupt driver as well. Make sure no updates to the drivers have been made recently.

Good luck

Hi thanks for the replies. It looks like the culprit is a bad hard drive. I tried using VREPAIR but it was not able to find a volume.

I'm loading another drive and the install process has begun. I am trying to load the NIC driver and it says there is no NIC in the PCI slot. I looked at the board and confirmed the slot is 1. I tried with a linksys lne100tx and a 3com 3c980.

I'm having to install a previous version of Novell as their license disc for 5.0 was for an upgrade. What a mission.

Thanks

I found some information regarding the NIC problem. Found a post where the person also had a dell poweredge. Apparently Dell told them the slots are somewhere between slot 10002 and 10017. Another option looks like manually loading sp9 files from disk.

NICI ccs: Fata Initialization error controlled Cryptography services are not available.

Make sure that your Disk Drivers and Raid controllers are loaded properly with the slot number assigments. All Cryptography are located in sys volume if it doesnt mount sys you get errors.

I installed Netware 5.0 and everything on the netware side went smooth but having issue with tape drive. Previous drive had failed. Starting a new post on the scsi tape drive problem.

Thanks.
