I am having a rather urgent problem. Sys is filling up with or with out users logged in. the problem sustains itself for about an hour and then returns to normal. The largest file on the volume is an 18MB file. The problem arose about 4 months ago, and thought that it might be a possible controller failure, since it is reporting space incorrectly. I have had two other Net Admins look at the server while the problem is occuring and could find no stray nlm going crazy. for the past 4 months this has been occuring on saturdays from 11:30p to 12:30a. there are no other processes going on other than file and system maintnance done by netware. Today it has broken this trend and started at 9:30 and went for only 20 minutes and then returned to normal opperation. Compression was turned on when server was installed 3-4 years ago, before I became admin. Any assistance will be helpfull. Thanks

Hmmm. Do you have a seperate volume for user data and use SYS exclusively for system files? If not, you may have to consider that as an option as it could be compression screwing around.

Check out the Novell TID below about space being reported incorrectly:

Also, see points 17 & 18 in the following Novell TID which details compression options (including the SET ENABLE FILE COMPRESSION=OFF which may help):

Data is stored on 4 seperate volumes. Since this server was setup before I was hired, there are some programs being used on sys. However, those programs are not used very often
