I just added a used Startalk to a new CICS. I purchased new 4.2 software pcmia to update the voicemail. I went through the install procedure and it actually skipped some areas of questions prior to the final initialization. I cannot access the system coordinator mailbox with any defaulted passwords. The voicemail is answering calls with the prior "old" business. When I try to F983, it says Log:, and then when I try 120000, it says "Not allowed". Any other password combinations says "Invalid password".

How do I clear the old information and start out with all the defaults of the new software cartridge? Feature 985 will not allow me to reconfigure without the known system coordinator password. All the other Feature buttons seem to have taken (F98X's) and the startalk is on extension 35. I tried the reset of the "admin" password but this still won't allow access to the coordinators mailbox.

Thanks Jim

Are you using a 73xx telephone (one with the 3 buttons below the display) that, so far, has been the only time i have seen the "not allowed" display. if you really need to reset the password for the system go to the FAQ page Norstarpro has put up a posting there JerryReeve

Yes, I am using a 7310 at DN21. Went to the FAQ and read from Northpro. I did that yesterday and this is not the reset for the "system coordinator". I still cannot do a thing to access the main coordinator mailbox.
Any other suggestions?

Was the StarTalk on a 3-digit number plan before now?

From a 73XX

it is

What software do you have in the StarTalk?
Min releases for CICS 4.2 are:Flash 1.9 and 4.0 on NVM.

Since I do not know the history of the used Startalk, i don't know if it was a two or three digit DN setup. I tried all # of digit defaults. Should the new pcmia software cartridge start the system fresh? Why the old data?

Second reply: That didn't work either when I F985 and entered the 9XXX's as suggested. Still cannot access the main mailbox.

The CICS software is version 4.2 and the new pcmia startalk software is 2.0.

what happens when you press
F985
and then press the 9 key nothing else
do you get a promt for a password ? If you find a tip helpful Please take a moment to mark it as such.

There is no prompt for password when I F985 and then press the 9 key. It still seems to want more digits following the Log: entry.

What do you see after you press F985? Set 35?
DueE

While you have Set 35 in the display, press 9. you should see Pswd:
at this point enter digits: 73738767793 then using the display keys, "OK" then "YES"
Then try the F983, then at log use 120000.
Let me know what happens

if your voicemail is a 4 port , unplug the 4 port module ( not under power) this will downgrade the system to a 2 port and reset all programming. try this if all else fails. you have had good advice.

yep west coaster, we're headed in the same direction...gotta used flash once that had been on a 2digit system B4 it was connected to a 3 digit system. It answered calls but there no way to get into programming until doing what you just described, but it was 2port so I had to find the 4 port module to borrow--a lesson I won't forget!

Thanks guys, the password finally changed (after the set prompt of 35, then entering the 973738XXXX)but had to use the mailbox 10 instead of 12. Got into the admin mailbox now with 100000 and got it to the inialization steps. It also allowed me to input the questions that it skipped previously.

You guys are great... and I appreciate your help.
