Syntax problem SQL

Hi Guys, not sure how the syntax works on this one.

strSQL = "SELECT max(cost) as MaxCardsfrom DealDetail_Hdr WHERE clientid =" & sID & " And Item = '" & Card(s) & "'"

Access is complaining about:[blue]'" & Card(s) & "'"
[/blue]portion of the statement.

Any ideas?

If 'Card(s)' is a literal, it should be

" And Item = 'Card(s)'"
