Hi,

Could anyone please let me know the Syntax of CNVTDATA?

I would like to convert the rmcobol data to ascii or dbf.

Please assume that my rmcobol data file name is GLMAST and
the File Description Name is GLMAST.FD

Please also let me know, if there is any other way to convert assuming I have all the File Descriptions for each Data File.

Thanks in advance...

Is this a RealWorld accounting application? If so, I think there exists a Relativity catalog which would allow ODBC SQL access to the data. Tom Morrison

Tom,

Can you tell me more about the relativity catalog? I'm attempting to convert RealWorld data in btrieve and am having trouble with definitions.

Thx.

Hmmm. Interesting combination.

Not too sure that I know of anyone supporting that combo. Who was the vendor for the RealWorld application?

Do you have access to the source code? If so, you can always build your own catalog.

RealWorld Accounting software was the vendor. I think they either became Great Plains or Great Plains bought them. "RealWorld Classic" appears to have become "Great Plains Classic".

I don't have the Cobol src or any DDFs for Btrieve. The reporting package they use is called IQ (IQ Software is now defunct). I've been able to parse some of the IQ definition files and figure out what most of the btrieve tables have to offer, but not all.

I was thinking that based on your post you might have some clues as to where to look for DDFs or another conversion facility. I've had some luck mining data with BUTIL and a few hand-built algorithms to convert the btrieve data types but something seamless would be great. Pointers appreciated.

You might try Passport Software ( and see if they can give you some direction. Passport is a long-time reseller of RealWorld (Classic) solutions.

It will be helpful to be able to tell them which release version of RealWorld you are trying to convert.
