I am trying to write a formula that changes the colour of a field depending upon the content of that field. For example, if the field {animal_type} = "CAT", it should appear in red, else it should be blue. I've tried the Crystal help but can't get their instructions to work.

Right click the field and select format field. From the font tab, hit the X-2 button to the right of color and enter a formula:

if {animal_type} = "CAT" then red else blue.
