I created a thread few months+ a year back regarding my excitement with working on the Remote Cache module. Its been some time and now Syndication has taken its place. For reference RC 16.2.4 was the last version and Syndication became a thing around ~16.2.5. Unlike its predecessor, I actually got it working right out of the box with about a days worth of research/work. Remote Cache on the other hand was a PITA challenging, for me anyway, and I'd not put as many tickets in since, Webdav or Livelink Explorer/Enterprise Connect was cool.

I dont see much talk on the OT forums on this module/feature (as I see of little benefit to most sites). Thus far the install was light vs day in regards to RC. I saw the updated whitepaper on its performance and just how much faster it is than RC, and it also does more than RC though anyone interested can look up themselves. Do any of you Livelink pros have this module up and running with good reviews? Your thoughts? Currently testing it out, have a OTDS site in replication with the remote site syncing syndicating with the primary site and all. If you have any questions/comments, I'll try to answer if not at least toss my 2cents in.

Thanks

looked at it for a client and they have decided to stick with RC for the moment on 16.2 as :

1. no xECM support (its coming)
2. the browsing via CSS is only for the content that is syndicated to that server rather than whats on the Primary (like RC) so a lot of common content would need to be synched which has a big impact

For several reasons RC support has been extended by OT.

Also note that WebDAV is being removed from the solution as well.

In summary, CSS should be a valuable solution for many clients, but its worth investigating and comparing with RC for functionality as the product evolves.

Hi Greg, thanks for responding. I've communicated with a few others since this post. It seems that all I am getting is ~"more features are to come". Unfortunately Syndication has even less documentation than RC 16.2, and probably even less actual customers using it. I have it running on a test environment now. Once thing I've noticed is that unlike RC, its not meant for existing remote sites. On a new primary/remote site install it worked out of the box great, not so much on an existing remote site. Besides that, there is limited document types it supports (included in documentation), for now. Props for its installation, its much simpler than RC. Just keep in mind turning on/off the remote site is a permanent deal, for now anyway.
