Hello all,
I have a question :
When trying to synchronise stale PPs with syncvg -v VGname, i had an error. But when using varonvg, it's ok... What's the difference between the syncvg command and the syncvg command using with varyonvg ???

Hi Ledam

Varyonvg <vgname> command does synchronize the PP's that are not current within vg.
While syncvg -v vgname command syntax synchronises stale pps
or copies (not current) on different volume groups.

That's it!

Ok thanks...
Could you explain me a little more about "PP that are not current" ?
What's exactly this kind of PP?

Hi
"pp'S that are not current" means obviously doesn't have the data up to the point. They are out of sync .They can be called stale pp's in otherwords...
varyonvg vgname command will synchronize that pps.

varyonvg -n vgname command disables the synchronization of stale pp's and activates the volume group.
But without flag and by default it synchronizes stale pps.

You mentioned that syncvg command failed but varyonvg didn't.
Because of several reasons syncvg failed...some of them are:
if it is in badreloacation mode or if the i/o of logical
volume is in use...or if the vg is corrupted or syncing vg with a factor greater than 1 or when the lv's with stale pp's are mirrored
if you mention me the syncvg error...in the post...I can provide you the specific reason why it is failed...

Have you run diag on the system, particularly the disks the VG is on? Is anything being reported in errpt?

Hi Ledam

usuallly the error 0516-932 /etc/syncvg: Unable to synchronize volume group vg01 will occur in the following situation----
If one the system from the mirror disk and later corrected primary boot disk. Then reboot the node with corrected primary disk in place.

second aleternative:

If you run diag utility or check error report ...you can find probably the faulty hdisk0 or hdisk1.

Bottom line is:You have mirrored boot disk(hdisk0 or hdisk1) in rootvg is bad..

and make sure all your disks are in the available state.
lsdev -Cc disk
lsdev -Cc pdisk (if ssa disks)

if any of the disks are missing, you're gonna get stale PP's.

errpt -a | pg and see what the lvm errors are
