I have several files I'd like to update on each laptop whenever a user syncs. I thought that attaching the file to a page in the Knowledge Base in InfoCenter was the way to do it, but it isn't working.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Connie

Hi Connie,

You need to update the link in GoldMine and the document date/time stamp as well.

That's what I thought should happen, but it's not!

On the server, I updated the file. Then went in InfoCenter & clicked on the page for the file. I enter the date & time that I modified it on the right side. The link above points to the correct file. I then edited the link (right click).

On the server, under the Attached File tab, it shows the file dated 6/27/05 at 7:01 am (sync checked). After syncing, on the laptop it shows 6/27/05 6:58 am. On the Access tab, the server & the laptop shows Last Update 6/27/05 7:07 am.

I don't understand??!!??!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Connie

More info...

I thought this might be a problem with the MS Access file, so I tried it with a Word document. Created the document on the server, linked it through Info Center, synced & it worked. Edited the document on the server, edited Info Center, synced the laptop & it worked.

So I deleted the original MS Access file on the laptop. I made a minor change to the file on the server & edited Info Center. When I synced the laptop, it updated the text in Info Center, but when I check the file information, the size is 0 and the date & time are n/a. The address for the attached file is correct. The Last Updated info is correct.

The laptop is set up with a one button sync. Could there be something wrong with the settings?

Thanks,
Connie

Richard:

I just synced again (just to be sure) with GM being the only thing open.

Info Center (on the laptop) still shows the file information for the attached file as above (size=0; date & time=n/a).

Very odd. Is the file in a secure location so it doesnt have full rights? Can you try coping the file to myfile.doc instead and seeing if that works?

Here's a strange thing...

I created a new page on the server & attached the file. Then when I synced the laptop it copied!!

Do I need to create a new page in InfoCenter each time I update the MSAccess database? Will it only sync it once?

Thanks,
Connie

To trigger it to sync, I believe you must launch it from within the infocenter, edit it and save/update it. THEN sync.

If you just use your windows explorer to browse to the file and modify it, GoldMine doesn't necessarily know you did this...
