Forgive me if this is already answered out there, but...

I have about 7000 Win2k machines which all have local user accounts (for the owner of the machine). I also have Novell 4.2 and 5.1 deployed at all of the locations with these PC's. I want each users local Win2k password automatically synchronized with their Novell password. The userid for Novell and the local Win2k userid are identical on all of these PC's. I also have the Zenworks starter pack at my disposal, but not the full zenworks. I do not have MS domains, or active directory, and can’t afford to put them in.

I have tried using the dynamic local user capability of ZEN, but for security reasons, we don’t want to automatically “create” users on a box, just change the password of an existing local user.

Any suggestions on how I can synchronize these passwords, or use the dynamic local user WITHOUT allowing automatic account creation? We aren't apposed to writing software (Winbatch, VB, etc.) if need be.

One last thing, it has to be free. Ah the joy of the corporate world, get it done by yesterday, do it with 100% success, and it needs to be free.

You should be able to use DLU from within ZEN, it's just a case of working out the appropriate settings for your particular requirements. I think what you need is the following combination in the DLU properties (these are actually from Zen2, but Zen 3/4 should have the same or similar check boxes).

Enable Dynamic Local User = Yes
Manage Existing NT Account = Yes (this is the key one)
Use NetWare credentials = Yes
Volatiel User = No (this will prevent the local account being deleted)

Try that - alternatively, there is an unsupported tool on Novell's site which is supposed to help this scenario - can't comment, not tested it in anger.

Come back if you need more help.
