Good Morning,

We have a NT40 SP6 domain with a PDC and a BDC.
2 days ago the PDC crashed and I had to rebuild it as a BDC and promote it back to PDC.

After some replication problems (I forgot to check/set the time zone ARG!!!) got straightened out, I was watching the Netlogon synchronization event messages to make sure everything was ok.

I was surprised to see that - even overnight - there were no syncs taking place - I only saw messages from when I manually synced and when I promoted the new PDC.

After checking the web, I saw that the sync timing is determined by key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters\Pulse

But when I went out to look at that key, neither PDC nor BDC had that value.

Is the information I have outdated? Should that key be there? Should I manually create it and set it to 300 secs?

Thanks for your help!!

Have you seized the fsmo roles onto your new pdc?

-------------------------------

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

I believe FSMO rolls are only applicable in an AD environment - that lets out NT4.

However, I promoted the other DC to PDC and it started synchronizing... I rechecked the reg key on both machines and still no pulse value.

Is it possible that it uses a default 5 mins and the key is only required if you wish to change that value?

thx
