Synchronising forms in Access using vba

I feel this should be easy but I've looked for an answer for this.

I have a series of forms in which field values selected from combo boxes on an initial form are displayed on the subsequent form and the available records are filtered accordingly.

How is this done?

One way is to reference the combo box in the criteria of the report feeding the form to be filtered. Another way is to when calling the form, use link criteria based on the combo box. Both are discussed in the online help at length.
