Synchronising an indesign book (master pages only) that can have upto 40 documents within has started to cause me problems. Upon completion a layer has been added to the layers dialogue box, thus throwing my layers out. My question is do all master pages within the documents within the book need to contain exactly the same elements?

Thanks, Gary.

No not all master pages need the same elements. When you sychronise the Book it will sychronise the Master Pages.

Master pages can be turned off for synchronising. If you go to the Fly Menu for the Book Panel you will see Sychronise Options.

You can choose to synchronise

Table Styles
Cell Styles
Object Styles
TOC Styles
Character Styles
Paragrpah Styles

Numbered Lists
Text Variables
Master Pages
Trap presets

If master pages do not have to have the same elements why are some of the documents having an extra layer added after synchronising?
