Good afternoon

I have a file that is changing continuously during business hours. I would like to be able, at regular intervals during the day, synchronise the live files to a backup copy on another server. Is this possible with rsync or are there better tools available?

Thanks

Alan

As far as a software/network solution, rsync is the way to go.

If you are using SAN/shared storage, one would use a LVM to mirror, sync, and break mirror. This is preferred because it is instantaneous and an atomic operation.

Both will miss open for write files without special consideration.

It is an open for write file that I need to synchronise, what special consideration do I need?

Alan

We are usually talking database stuff. Most have a hot backup facility, others have hooks to quiesce the database when you want to take a "snapshot".

Alan,

What O/S?

We are using redhat linux boxes.
