After a move customer gets a "no license" response when logging on as a user that leads to opening "Synchronics".

I've just received the call so don't know any other details but know the shutdown was clean and no error messages since the system came back up.

One user has been on and SFAIK the error comes when the second user attempts login on this 10 user license.

Would appreciate any info about where license usage is stored. On this system the stuff is in /u/syn75. I'm suspecting a config directory file but won't be into the machine until tomorrow.

Ed, are you asking about os licenses or synchronics licenses?

synchronics ... no idea

os ... sometimes this happens when a weird date is entered or hardware clock is screwed up, but i dont remember that ever happening on a 5.0.5 system. 5.0.7 yes but not 5.0.5.

This is a Synchronics license issue. Suspicion that it allows one user on but not more. Also suspect that the license tally does not get set back to 0 when the machine is rebooted. That will be my first check when I get on site in an hour or so.
One saving grace, I did a backup before they moved, so should be able to get them back to Monday AM.

Well, so much for it being a Synchronics license problem. Walked in the door and logged into 4 screens on the console.
Seems that it is a workstation, W2K using TinyTerm, that is throwing a CenturySoftware license screen.

Grrr.

And now another machine, personal, has come up with the same error. Has been running for a little more than a year.

The original machine was flushed then the software was loaded again. The software evidently took but the activation failed, twice on the original version and one on a later version.

I smell a rat. Can't help but wonder if Century SW might also be thinking OS update with a second in 2 days.

Century Software (TinyTERM) fell from my good graces after about version 3.3. Bloated and expensive.
Anzio is great if you still need Wyse60. Otherwise, for decent ANSI emulation, you can't beat Putty ('cause it's free).

No answer yet on what may have happened on the personal machine. But the customer's machine was due to a CMOS battery that went flat at some time after the last boot prior to the move and the first boot at the new location.

It was covered by the FAQs, but who pays attention to the time when all you are doing is booting up to get connectivity.

Agree on the putty. It has been a couple of years but worked well when I needed it.

Thanks
