Currently we have a sales force of 12 that use Goldmine on a regular basis. 2 of these users are only in the office 1 a week. Their current method of using Goldmine is through a Citrix connection. Because of latency issues we are looking into other possible solutions so they do not have to be directly connected to the database at all times.
The reason for the latency in the Citrix connection is the user must connect to our main location through Citrix, they then access Goldmine which is located on a server at a remote location over a T1 connect. The latency is there for all users connecting from our main office to our remote site whether they are using Citrix or not.
We are looking into GoldSync as a solution, if it can meet our needs. I have some questions before requesting a price quote from local companies.
1. What is the difference between GoldSync and the Syncronization Wizard?
2. If there is no difference other than "1 click" sync's why use GoldSync?
3. Does GoldSync (and/or Syncronization Wizard) create a spereate instance of the database on the local machine?
4. If so what would prevent the user from syncing their machine with another instance of Goldmine (ie: security hole)
If not how is the information stored on the local machine so the user can be disconnected?
5. If we chose GoldSync over Syncronization Wizard would the user still need to go through our firewall and across the T1 to sync with the Goldmine Database?
6. Are there any good websites that have documentation on GoldSync and Syncronization Wizard? I looked at and found summary information, but I am looking more for technical articles or pratical information on the technology, not the sales pitch.
Thank you for your insight.
