I want to sync the system clock with the other computers on the network. we are using solidworks and they think that the time discrepancies are an issue. I'm not using a domain because only 5 users are on xp pro, the rest are on xp home.

any suggestions?

Thanks
Andy

I'm getting this error in the event viewer as well. does this have anything to do with it?

W32time
This Machine is a PDC of the domain at the root of the forest. Configure to sync from External time source using the net command, 'net time /setsntp:<server name>'.

I just figured this out myself! Go to the command prompt of the domain controller. Use the command:
net time /setsntp:IPADDRESS
replacing IPADDRESS with the address of a time server on the internet. I simply used dogpile to search for time servers and found a whole list. If you cant find one, email me and I will send you the IP I used.

Detroit,
Since you asked: net time /setsntp:131.107.001.010

so do I create a .bat file and put this on every computer? do I put it in the start up or schedule a task?

Thanks
Andy

sorry for being ignorant, but I am still a bit confused. I still have the same questions from my previous post and another.

1. Do I put the bat file on every computer?
2. How often does it need to run.
3. The ip addy that mrlauri posted be the same time zone as me or will it automatically detect my timezone?

Thanks
Andy

IMHO, W32time just doesn't cut it. We had a LOT of problems working with it. We are using a product called Atomic Time Synch from a company called AnalogX. It's freeware and easy to use. Configure your DC to go to an external source, then point your pcs to the Domain Controller using the program. It's Windows based, so no screwing around with command line opts.

ps: Be sure to disable W32time service if you decide to use ATS, or you will get a load of errors in your event logs.
