Is it neccessary to shutdown HA before running
Sync.....if it is done when DCD becomes ACD?

Your really should have the cluster manager active when doing a sync. However, depending upon what your company prefers, you may want to consider doing syncs during maintenance windows, even though it doesn't (shouldn't) cause any problems, particularly if you have done all your homework and planning regarding the change you are making. Now, if you don't have a maintenance window coming in a timely manner, and if the change you are needing to sync is to correct a problem that could potentially prevent a successful fallover of resources, you should find the least intrusive and least active time of day to go ahead and do the sync.

Check out the PDF downloadable documentation at:

The Administration guide goes into details on sync steps and are much too long to post here, but here's the general overview. Do read up on it in the guide.

Note: Before synchronizing a cluster configuration, ensure that all nodes are powered on, that the /etc/hosts and
/.rhosts files on all nodes include all HACMP for AIX boot and service IP labels.

To synchronize changes to the cluster topology across all cluster nodes:

1. From the Cluster Configuration menu, select Cluster Topology then Synchronize Cluster Topology and press Enter.

2. Specify the desired option in the Ignore Cluster Verification Errors field.

3. Set the Emulate or Actual field to Actual to run cluster synchronization. (You can emulate the first time if you want).

4. Set the Skip Cluster Verification field to the desired option.

5. Press enter

6. The cluster definition (including all node, adapter, and network method information) is copied to the other cluster nodes.

7. Press F10 to exit SMIT.

For synchronizing the resources, there is one other field, the Un/Configure Cluster Resources. Remember, amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic.
