We use GM 6.7 in a networked environment but have only a couple undocked users. We have just completed a massive cleanup (deletes, merge/purge, etc.)of the Common database on the server and did not want to synchronize the undocked notebook and take a chance of creating duplicates, etc. (no changes from the notebook need to be copied to the server) I, therefore, created a new blank Common DB and deleted the existing Common DB on the notebook. Then I synchronized with the server and it appeared that it worked at first, but then I realized some Notes and History did not come across and the total number of contacts was off by 400+. I restored the entire GM directory on the server and created another new blank Common DB on the notebook. Now I'm not sure what I need to do with the GMBase directory on the notebook or if I need to worry about it. If I sync again and only select "Send changed data to remote" will I be ok or have I totally hosed it up? What do you recommend?

I don't understand why you think syncing with the remotes would cause duplicates. If you did all the cleaning on the server that would sync out to the remotes. (deletes and merges) Unless you aren't syncing all changes from the server to be recieved by the remotes.
There was no need to do a blank common.
Now to fix it, I would just start from scratch and do a new one button install to the remotes, instead of trying to fix patches.

I didn't do the cleaning and it was possibly alittle creative so I didn't want to take a chance of causing problems with the syncing. I do have a backup and a restore point, but I think I will start from scratch. Thanks for your comments.

First, back up the main database

Then, back up the laptop

THEN do your sync

Then you will know.

Don't dance around a problem because it MIGHT be a problem. Attack it and settle it - if you get a bungled database because, for example, you cleaned up the main one with Access and your sync logs are gibberish, then you'll know where to begin to fix it
