I am an AIX system Admin. My client is transitioning to new machines. Our dba's say that we cannot use replication to keep the databases in sync because the filesystem structure is changing from the old server to the new. We want to be able to keep the new and old database in sync for transitioning users to the new environment and in case we need to go back to the old env. Is there a way or a 3rd party software package that can accomplish this? We are on 8.1.6 in an AIX 4.3.3 environment and the database SID is not changing. So basically, we want both new and old database up, active and in sync.

Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

This is quite not true. Replication must not be dependent on the filesystem structures of the database files.

Maybe, he is talking about standby database? Robbie
