Hi all,

I'm running a samba server on a solaris machine, talking to several windows NT boxes.

From time to time the solaris machine drops out and stops responding to the network.

The network activity can go on for several hours without a problem and then all of a sudden all connections are dropped.

When checking the state of the sockets I see a few sockets in SYN_RCVD state.

When typing snoop (network snoop binary) the machine kicks off again.
Must be an issue with waiting for a packet.

Anyone any info about this ?

Thanks!

is the network card going to sleep? does it have a power saving mode?

what NIC are you using? or is it a sparc box?

Hi Jad,

It's a sparc ultra10, running sol9 with latest patches.
Dunno what nic it is, standard happy meal I guess.

Yes, it looks like the nic is going to bed,
strange, i've never had this before.

I've got a script now that runs snop during 2 seconds, sleeps for 10 seconds and so on...

Seems to hold up now but I would like to know *why* it is doing this.

Strange.

Sorry, thats snoop, not "snop"...
