Symposium Client for Windows 2000 1

Hi.

I've been having this problem lately with installing Symposium Client for W2k on any machines running this operating system. This has only been happening recently and I cannot figure out why this is happening.

The error message I recieve is the following:

"Sybase was not installed properly. Please rollback the setup operation, uninstall Sybase manually, and re-run setup again."

I have done this and I keep getting the same message.

It's common on a Pentium 4 machine, as the Java part of the installation is not compatible with the one used for the P4's.
I've made a previous post on how to install the client on a P4:

First remove the local ASE12CLT folder. Then clean the registry either by hand, or you can use the programm Regclean 4.1a(

which can also handle the registry of w2k. Just start the programm (made by Microsoft) and follow the leads.
Afterwards reboot, copy the content of the ASE12CLT folder from the CDRom locally to eg c:\temp.
Copy the complete jre-1_1-nt386 folder to the same local folder. Remove the read-only from all files and perform the setup.exe; be sure that the destination of the Sybase install is either D:\ASE12CLT or, if no D drive C:\ASE12CLT.
Reboot machine if requested; start the setup.exe from the CDRom afterwards to install Symposium Client. It will return a few errors, because Sybase is already installed. Just continue the installation. Do not overwrite any *.dll files.
This way you should have a clean install.

If you would like to run the fat client also on a P4 machine, be sure that you download the patch from

http://www.sybase.com/content/1013241/sy_jre1.1.zip

and extract the content to this C:\Temp folder (overwrite all files if prompted)

hi,

we're currently using version 3 of symposium and i cant install the client to a windows 2000 and xp box. does anyone know any work arounds? i believe the version you guys are talking about is verion 4 already.

That's correct, ask your vendor for an updated version, the should be able to send you one for free

i had rel. 3 running on xp for some time before upgrading to 4. (upgrading to 4 will cost $$ and i don't believe you can update the client without updating the server, but i'm not certain about that)

at any rate, the only thing holding me back was an updated version of DMI as i recall. DMI version 2.0 will allow it to run. i have the executable. if you want it, email me.

What do you recommend for Celeron clients, running W2K?

I too had a problem when installing to W2K. I found I had to install from the CD and not from a local / network copy. Always failed after the sybase and did the role back.

Solution. Out original CD in a install away.

Installation attempts from CD or from files copied off CD both fail with Sybase rollback.

Hello out there,

The installation failure has been my fate as well. A new P4 computer doesn't like the installation. I tried the suggestions (and others mentioned) from 'Supernn' with no luck. Are there any other suggestions/possibilites? Where can I get this Open Client installation? I have Sybase PowerBuilder products around the office...

Has anyone had luck?

The OpenClient version is on the original CD, (ASE12CLT) just install this fully.
Be sure that you will need to clean the registry each time the install fails.... i know it's a pain, but it's Nortel..
