Hi guys

We had somebody here today from Nortel trying to sell us Symposium 6. We are currently on 5 (I guess).

He was talking about the historical reporting, particularly to do with the email inbound contacts, and I asked the question, "can you connect Crystal Reports to the databases?" and he said you can't - we have always used Crystal to report on historical stats with Symp 5.

Is he right or not?

But the reports are written using Crystal!

You will still be able to write reports in Crystal either manually and then import them as report templates
or
using the in-built report creation wizard (1 free license with install - based on concurrent usage).

Is this what you mean or do you export the data and run reports against that? As long as you use an ODBC connection, you can still do this (is the advice I've had).

The other advantage of 6 over 5 (or 4.2) is that the reporting now encompasses multimedia contact and outbound dialling.

Well he never said that!

At the moment we use DTS packages to back up the data onto SQL Server 2000 and run the Crystal Reports off that.

However, now and again we connect directly to the Symposium Server via ODBC for looking at eCallByCall stats. We also used to use this method to analyse the data before we brought in SQL Server.

Good to know this functionality remains in the newer version, anyway.

Cheers mate.

PS Yeah the multimedia bit is one of the main reasosn for buying - it looks really cool...
