SymNRT caused a problem

Trying to install Norton Internet Security 2005 on a win xp sp2 system. It ran into install problems apparently from a prior install that did not properly uninstall. I ran SymNRT without a problem and rebooted. Now the system boots OK but is unusable. Some keyboard keys now print non-corresponding chars on the screen. For example typing m prints 0.

Any ideas what to do other than a complete OS re-install?
