I have a PC that had Norton System Works 2002 including Norton Anti-Virus with Auto Protect enabled on it. Corporately we are using McAfee for anti-virus protection and I let McAfee uninstall Norton when installing the McAfee.
MISTAKE! Now I get a "black screen" error of:
"Error NAV Auto-Protect is unable to start
SYMEVNT.386 is not loaded. You may need to reinstall
Norton Antivirus to correct the problem
Press any key to continue...."
I uninstalled McAfee and Reinstalled Norton -- which wouldn't let me reinstall NAV because it said it was already installed. Wouldn't let me modify it either or remove it.
Finally after several attempts with uninstall - install I was able to get Norton back -- however, every time I went into the options to unselect Auto-Protect or actually to change any option I get a script error. So I uninstalled all of System Works AGAIN.
And back to the above black screen error. I can't find a reference to SYMEVNT.386 anywhere -- not in the registry (ran regedit with a search) Not in the Config.Sys, Autoexec.bat, Win.ini, System.ini, etc. files (ran sysedit)
Any ideas where this reference to this file lives??? It's an annoying system startup error.
Thanks
Lynette
