Symbols in Word

I am a student doing German. I used to be able to insert German characters into a document on my old laptop (WORD 97) but I got a new computer (WORD ME) and there are no german characters in insert, symbol. Can I download them? where? Am I doomed to use my crap laptop for german?

You should be able to find these on the Microsoft website. They should also be included on the Office installation disk. You may have to hunt and peck for the files.
