(..) symbol for -ve in 123 not working

hi guys,

this might sound stupid but i have tried so many things to solve this problem but to no avail. when i enter a negative number in lotus 123 cell eg -9, i can not assign the sign to be (9).

i have checked the cell properties and also the computer regional setting and all is fine. i can't seem to find what's wrong? anybody can help .... please.
