Symbol Bar Code Scanner

I have a standard Symbol USB bar code scanner. I plug it in and it doesn't show up as s com port on the terminal so I can get it doing. I have defaulted the device with the codes. I am wondering what step I am missing. I think I remember a bar code that you need to scan to make it work in Aloha but its been awhile. It does something that gives it a com port right?
