Symantec to Netscreen VPN

At my company we have a netscreen 5gt and am attempting to connect to a Symantec firewall (not sure of the model number) in order to setup a VPN. However we are unable to establish traffic between the two and I was wondering if anyone knew why that would be? Are there any latent compatibility issues with the two, or a specific encryption for packets? Any input is greatly appreciated.
