We're using Symantec's Antivirus 8.1 here.

The primary action is to clean, and if that fails, to quarantine the file.

I've got a few machines that the action taken is "left alone in quarantine."

Does anybody know what the difference is between "Quarantine" and "Left Alone in Quarantine".

Neither the Symantec site, nor the book sheds any light on this.

Thanks.

But i understand what left alone means, and what quarantined means.

But Im curious as to the difference between "Left ALone" and "Left Alone IN QUARANTINE." I get both messages.

Maybe a permissions issue? Within the article, there's a link to further explanation re: why "Left alone" would occur:

The file is locked by the operating system.
The file is currently in use.
The file exists within an image file such as a Symantec Ghost image file.
The file is on a network drive, and you do not have the necessary permission set to access the file.

Further...

"The Quarantined file will be left alone until the next set of definitions arrive.

When Quarantined files cannot be repaired, Symantec AV or NAVCE report the file as infected and "Left Alone..."
