Hello,

I have an Active Directory network with 3 servers and about 75 desktops that are all Windows 2000 or Windows XP machines. I have been running Symantec AV Corporate Edition 10.0 and it is about due for renewal. I recently received some price quotes from my vendor and I can purchase McAfee Active Virus Defense SMB Edition a little cheaper than the latest version of Symantec's product. I am unfamiliar with McAfee's products, can someone tell me if they have had good/bad experience with this McAfee product and how it compares with Symantec's?

Thanks.

Check with your vendor on an upgrade from corporate AV to Corporate client security. It has AV along with firewall, ad blocking, and popup stopper, etc. etc. We did it and it was not much more each seat for that product.

Okay, I will check it out. Thanks

Bkesting if you still want an opinoin mcafee stinks i had nothing but the worst with that company. A lot of my friends prefer symantic over mcafee.

For your situation Symantec would probably suffice.
Mcafee is by far the best software to use in an above average sized network.
Symantec, Corporate edition, or not, is just not good enough to use in large environments where pc's / server's will be getting added tot he network without your knowledge; whereas Mcafee's ePolicy Orchestrator 3.6 is brilliant for corporate size networks. One build I have implemented and manage currently has close to 20k pc's and servers in it. Imagine trying to manage that with Symantec!

mcafee might be good in your situation but in the ave. corp. symantic corprate edition has a better stability than mcafee

Nah, totally disagree with there sorry.
The amount of problems we get with Symantec with old OS' such as NT4 (don't blame me, blame one of our customers), isn't funny.
I can hack away some of the registry and the Mcafee services will still start!

mcafee with the windows xp and 2000 doesnt work to well. it bottoms out with just about every comp on the network and half the time it doesnt reconize its own virus definitions.

which version of Mcafee are you talking about?
I've rolled the VSE 8.0i out to around 30k pc's and servers with very few issues

i forgot which version it was but it was sometime last year. symantic had been loaded on like 30-40 k pcs over 50+ clients and i have had no problems plus i can monitor all the clients from here.

it all boils down to who likes what. i have a better success rate with symantic products so i will recommend symantic over mcafee. and vice versa with you.
